Islamic banking may be in demand in regions of Russia where a significant proportion of the population practice Islam. This was stated today by the President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov at the session of SberTalk, which was held within the framework of the XIII International Economic Summit «Russia – the Islamic World: KazanSummit 2022». Minnikhanov mentioned that despite Western sanctions, most of the OIC member countries continue to interact with our country. The President of Tatarstan believes that the system of Islamic financing is a promising area of trade and economic cooperation. Such a model can act as an alternative to Western capital markets and trading platforms.

The discussion of the issues of support and development of Islamic banking and financial instruments was a continuation of the round table organized by The Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia in the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation on April 28, 2022, where a thorough and substantive exchange of views on various aspects of cooperation between Russia and the Muslim world in the economic, energy and investment spheres took place in an informal setting. There was also a presentation of Russian opportunities in the fields of education and science. Special attention is paid to the expansion of contacts between civil society institutions and religious organizations. An important outcome of the discussions was the mutual understanding reached on the importance of strengthening Russia's cooperation with the states of the Islamic world, of which it is an integral part.
